About us

What financialservicescompanies.com is, who runs it, how it makes money, and what it deliberately will not do.

What this site is

financialservicescompanies.com is a directory of financial service providers — banks, lenders, insurers, accountants, investment firms, payment companies and the rest. It exists so that somebody deciding where to put their money, or who to trust with their books, can find out what a company actually offers and what its customers actually said, in one place, without a sales call.

Where the information comes from

Most company profiles begin with public records. Bank listings are matched against the FDIC’s own register, and where a company appears in a regulator’s published register we link to that register so you can check it rather than take our word for it. Every profile shows how many of its details are matched against an official source and how many were supplied by the company.

A company can claim its profile and keep it current. When it does, its edits go through moderation before they appear, and the profile says who is maintaining it.

How it makes money

A company can pay for featured placement, which puts its listing in a labelled band that says “Paid placement” in as many words. That is the only paid product.

Paid placement cannot move a company up the results when you sort or search, cannot change its rating, cannot remove a review, and cannot buy a verification indicator. Those are not aspirations; they are constraints the software enforces, and they are set out in our neutrality policy.

What we will not do

  • We do not write, buy, generate or solicit favourable reviews. Every review here was written by a member of the public and read by a moderator before it appeared.
  • We do not remove a review for being negative. A company can reply to it, once, in public. It cannot have it taken down, and it cannot pay to have it taken down.
  • We are not a regulator. A listing here is not approval, and appearing in a public register is not approval either — by that regulator or by us.
  • We do not give financial advice. Our guides explain how products work. They never tell you which company to choose.

Getting things wrong

A directory this size will contain mistakes. If a profile is wrong, tell us and we will look at it. If you think a review breaks our rules, report it. We would rather be corrected than be quietly wrong.
