Accessibility
What we build to, what we know is not right yet, and how to tell us when something blocks you.
This site is about money, and being unable to read it has consequences. We treat accessibility as part of whether a page works, not as a finishing touch.
What we build to
WCAG 2.1 level AA is the target. In practice the things we hold ourselves to are:
- Contrast. Body text and any text conveying information sits at or above 4.5:1 against its background; meaningful icons and controls at or above 3:1. These are computed rather than eyeballed, and text that failed has been darkened rather than left because it looked fine.
- Visible focus. Every interactive element shows where keyboard focus is. Where a form library removed an outline, we put it back.
- Keyboard operation. Everything that can be clicked can be reached and operated from a keyboard. There is a skip link to the main content on every page.
- No icon-only navigation. Icons accompany text labels; they never replace them.
- Real form labels. Every field has one, associated properly, and errors are announced rather than only coloured.
- No surprise navigation. Changing a filter does not move you to another page on its own — you press a button when you are ready.
What we know is not right yet
Being straight about this is more useful than a compliance statement:
- Long comparison tables scroll horizontally on small screens. They are readable, but a screen reader user comparing four companies has more work to do than they should.
- Some company logos are supplied by the companies themselves and may carry no useful alternative text. Where none exists we fall back to the company name.
- The site has not been through a formal third-party audit. Everything above is our own testing.
If something blocks you
Please tell us at verify@financialservicescompanies.com with “Accessibility” in the subject. Tell us the page and what happened — including which assistive technology and browser, if you know. We would rather fix a real barrier somebody hit than guess at hypothetical ones.
If you need information from a company profile in another format, ask and we will send it.
