What the site is, in one paragraph

financialservicescompanies.com is an independent directory of financial service providers. Company profiles are built from public records where they exist — bank listings are matched against the FDIC register and linked back to it — and companies can claim and maintain their own profiles. Customer reviews are written by the public and read by a moderator before they appear. The site’s only paid product is clearly labelled placement, which cannot influence search position, ratings or rankings.

Facts we will stand behind

• Company profiles state how many of their details are matched against an official source and how many came from the company.
• Regulatory records carry the date they were last checked, and are re-checked on a schedule. A record we can no longer confirm is withdrawn rather than left standing.
• Reviews are never removed for being negative, and a company cannot pay to have one removed.
• Rankings are published only where there is enough review volume for them to mean anything.

What we will not say

We will not give you a figure we cannot show you the working for, and we will not describe the directory as bigger, more verified or more complete than it is. If you ask us how many listings hold customer reviews and the answer is unflattering, that is the answer you will get.

Using our name

You are welcome to describe and link to the site. Please do not present a listing, a verification indicator or a ranking as an endorsement by us of any company — it is not, and our verification page sets out exactly what each indicator does and does not mean.
